Great news for all Drag Race fans from the UK as the show has confirmed that they will be doing a UK version with Ru Paul, Graham Norton, Alan Carr and Michael Visage being the permanent judges. As with the US version each week will feature two special guest judges. Graham Norton and Alan Carr are both famous British comedians who both have the quick witted, sassy yet subtle comedy style that Ru Paul has previously said he loves. Apparently there is going to be a royal themed episode, because of course there is and Ru Paul heavily hinted at wanting Meghan Merkle as a guest judge for this episode.
Who's the queens?
Nothing has being confirmed as of yet (as usual) and film is expected to take place in London within a BBC studio as the series will be on BBC3. Rumours have swirled around who is going to be on the show and get a spot on the first UK RPDR season. Instagram detectives have done sleuthing and a bio queen called Delirium has been rumoured to be taking part, mainly due to her tagging RPDR in instagram posts and a drop in schedule around the suspected filming time. This would be the very first bio queen to ever be on a RPDR season and would surely be a dramatic entrance for the new franchise.
What can we expect?
Deciding what we should expect from a UK version of RPDR is difficult as US and UK drag is hugely different. Whilst US drag is often about glamour, tongue pops and explosive behaviour UK drag is more like what would happen if your 55 year old chain smoking uncle got really drunk on a holiday to benidorm and decided to pop a wig on in a local bar, might be a good singer too. Charlie Hydes was read for filth for her standing still, telling the kids to get off her lawn style lip sync and whilst the read was correct UK drag is less often kicks and flips and more about live vocals, stand up comedy and hosting.
